Palletless FIBC (Bulk Bag) for L’Hoist.
Product: Palletless FIBC for packing 900kg of a very fluid-like mineral powder
Part of the L’hoist Group, L’hoist UK produces a purest lime available in the UK and delivers high quality lime based products to both UK and international customers in many industries including construction, chemicals, agriculture, food and water treatments.
BRIEF
L’Hoist was exporting FIBC’s on pallets in containers to the Far East and required a cost reduction in their logistics chain.
We needed to offer a Pallet-less FIBC without compromising pack integrity or handling;
- No heat treated wooden pallet
- Reduce overall pack and logistics cost
- Retain the rigidity of a Q-bag form stable FIBC
- Stack and store easily prior to despatch in containers
- Fill through the FIBC packer at the same speed
SOLUTIONS
Having extensive knowledge in producing Pallet-less FIBCs we offered a twin tunnel base bag that would allow access for discharging and fill on the existing equipment without changing the method or process.
Filling the fluid-like mineral powder into the special construction allowed for a good rigid bulk bag. After filling the first bag was transported by the loops to the warehouse and stored on the ground. The second bag was then filled by hanging up the loops and transported on an internal pallet to the warehouse where it was stacked onto the first bag.
This allowed the product to settle inside the bag into the Pallet-less base. When ready for despatch, the Pallet-less base tunnels were used to pick the bag up and made for easy handling and stacking inside the container.
CONCLUSIONS
Smarter thinking and development allowing cost reduction without compromising product quality.
- We reduced their overall packaging cost.
- The bags could be handled from either the base or loops
- There was no need for expensive heat treated wooden pallets
